ARAG is an acronym of our original parent company’s name, which means “legal protection insurance” in German. Because we value our company’s global heritage and diversity spanning more than 90 years, we proudly retain the ARAG name.
ARAG’s history
We were founded more than 90 years ago on the principle that everyone should have access to legal representation. That belief still guides us today.
Attorney and entrepreneur Heinrich Faßbender started ARAG in Düsseldorf, Germany, as legal protection for car drivers. After three generations, the company is still owned and operated by the founding family and has grown to offer legal protection for all life’s situations. We continue to expand, and today ARAG is the world’s leading legal insurer, with current operations in 18 countries.
